Fugue: A fugue is a composition technique in which two or more voices, build on a subject (theme) that is introduced at the beginning in imitation (repetition at different pitches) and recurs frequently in the course of the composition.

About

Elliot, A Soldier’s Fugue,
is about a young boy, Elliot Ortiz as he leaves his home and his family behind to fight the war in Iraq. The play is about his search to understand his Puerto Rican heritage, his familial history, and the meaning of heroism in war. This lyrical and moving story of three generations of soldiers, musicians, and activists is the first play in a trilogy about the Ortiz family. While each play was written independently and can be seen without the other two, they all center around Elliot, based on Ms. Hudes’ real-life cousin, at different stages in his life.
